Coach Joy

I started my track career as a student-athlete at Shenandoah High School.  I was the high point man for the Zep’s in 1987 and 1988.  At Shenandoah, I specialized in the long sprints

(400 m, 200 m) and the relays.  I ran at Mount Union College where I was part of Coach Homan’s Championship run, winning numerous OAC Team Championships.  I was All-OAC on the 4x200m relay and ran a personal best 50.8 in the open 400 m

I began coaching at Tuslaw High School as a Junior High Track Coach in 1994.  In 1995, I became the distance coach for the Mustangs.  In 1996, I became the head boys track coach until beginning at John Glenn in 1997.  At JGHS I have coached five MVL Championship Teams, seven District Championship Teams, three District-Runner-up teams, and three Regional Runner-up teams.  I have coached numerous athletes who have broken school records and have competed at the State Meet.  In 2002, I placed 7 athletes in 11 Events at the State Meet.  I have also coached a state-runner up in the shot put.  In 2012 John Glenn Track had its best year in school history, breaking seven school records and winning District titles in both boys and girls track and finishing as Regional Runner-up in Girls.  In 2013 the John Glenn Girls Finished as MVL Champions, District Champions, and as Regional Runner-up.  The Lady Muskies have won the districts 4 years in a row and have been regional runner-ups three times in the last 5 years.  My coaching experience includes every event in track and field.

I have organized and ran three invitational; The Bill Fernandez Invitational, The STS-95, and the freshman and sophomore meet.  I have also played a vital role in the MVL Championships over the last ten years.  In 2014 and 2015  I helped organize and run OHSAA REGIONAL MEET at Muskingum University.  I have been past president of The Eastern District Track Coaches Association.  I am currently District 8 Representative for the OAT and CCC for track and field and represented Ohio at the National Track and Field Clinic in Orlando, Florida and Phoenix, Arizona.  I am also on the committee for the national track and cross country coach of the year.
